Our History

Founded in 1984, bds mktg was created by Mark Dean with the belief that people make the difference at retail. His concept: build a company with smart, passionate people and you’ll build a loyal customer base. To create an environment where smart, passionate people can thrive, Mark established a culture characterized by relationships, enthusiasm, freedom, straight talk, and operational excellence. Under the leadership of Mark, this culture still exists today at bds and has allowed the company to grow into one of the nation's most sought after marketing firms.

bds’ roots are originally in traditional sampling and demonstration services in packaged goods and consumer products. In 1991, bds’ consumer electronics clients started requesting the agency to conduct in-store events at consumer electronic retail locations. With retail as the new focus, bds became an innovator and leader in the areas of assisted selling programs, demonstration, field marketing, promotion, training, merchandising, and field intelligence.

In 2003, bds expanded into the apparel market, leveraging and refining our core consumer electronics service sets into product offerings that were suitable for this industry. As bds saw the expansion of consumer electronics and technology move into the automotive “cockpit”, bds launched an automotive group in 2004 to complement our deep experience in consumer electronics. Since then, bds has expanded our retail marketing expertise to the sporting goods, baby and toy industries.
